A newly completed worker's home in Sydenham, Christchurch

This was a house erected under the terms of the Workers' Dwelling Act 1905, an Act to make better provision for the erection of workers' dwellings. During the year ended 31 Mar. 1907, 12 of these house were built in Christchurch, each on an acre of land. Thirty-eight applications were received, and thirty-one were admitted to the ballot for them. All the houses had five rooms. The rent was £2 0s 10d monthly, or 9s 5d weekly.
