The boat is doing 15 knots between the Colombo and Manchester Street bridges to demonstrate the possibilities of having the entire bed of the Avon River cleaned out and deepened. The Stewart river cleaning plant had been in operation on this part of the river. The tall structure in the background is the Christchurch City Council's rubbish destructor which was on the Manchester Street corner and heated the old tepid baths
