A fire sale of the stock of Weston Bros. & Co., 188 Hereford Street, held at the premises of T.J. Armstrong & Co., corner of Colombo and Armagh Streets, Christchurch
[late 1933 or early 1934]
A spectacular fire on 31 Oct. 1933 destroyed most of the four-storey building at 188 Hereford Street occupied by Weston Bros. & Co., leather goods merchants, also Chandler & Co. Ltd., advertising agents and the Bencol Oil Company. At the time it was reported that all of Weston Bros.' stock of fancy leather goods was destroyed, but enough was salvaged to be sold in a fire sale later. (see The Press, 1 Nov. 1933, p. 10)
