Stoneycroft, Hornby
[1910]

This 13-room house was built on a 50-acre section in 1863 by runholder George Alexander Emilius Ross (1829-1876). He was declared bankrupt in 1867 and the house was then leased by his cousin, Capt. Peter Alexander Halkett of the Royal Navy. Richard May Morten (1823-1909) bought the property in 1872. On his death his son, Arthur Roscoe Vernon Morten (1878-1931), inherited the house and surrounding land. In 1910 he dismantled the building and built another alongside. See Paparua County Council County history (uncompleted) / W.H. Scotter, p. 47-48.
