William Birdling (1822-1902) of Birdlings Flat, Canterbury

He was employed by George Rhodes in 1843 to come to Banks Peninsula and work as his overseer. He later moved to Purau and then bought a property of his own, building a house, Waikoko, in the area now known as Birdlings Flat
