An early picture of Sumner
An early picture of Sumner
[186-?]
The group of buildings shows Day's Hotel on the left and the Canterbury Association's stables (erected in 1850) on the right. Before the completion of the Lyttelton Tunnel Sumner was quite a busy port. All cargo was taken past this point to the various wharves on the Heathcote River.
