This was Exhibit O in a successful action in the Court of Appeal brought by George Gould (1865-1941) and the Save the Square Committee against the Christchurch City Council in 1930. On the right is the Torlesse building. Built in Gothic style, it was the first stone structure in the Square and was a small office block. It was demolished in 1916.
