Godley statue, Cathedral Square, Christchurch

This was Exhibit P in a successful action in the Court of Appeal brought by George Gould (1865-1941) and the Save the Square Committee against the Christchurch City Council in 1930. The Godley statue, surrounded by blue gum and cabbage trees and a picket fence, is shown before the tramway shelter was built in front of it in 1907. The central post office and the Royal Exchange building are shown in the background. There is a cabstand on the left
