J Force replacement draft enters camp

The J Force was the fore-runner of today's peacekeepers and occupied Japan at the end of World War Two (1939-1945). The first J Force went to Japan in mid-1946 and was replaced by a further draft of volunteers in mid-1947. This photography shows some of these recruits at Christchurch railway station before they travelled to Burnham Camp for their preliminary training.
