The first Methodist church built at St Albans Lane, Christchurch

In 1859 a church building, twenty by sixteen feet, was erected in St Albans Lane on a quarter-acre section opposite Somme Street (formerly Coopers Lane). This photograph shows the original small church with the additions made in 1868 for a Sunday school which accommodated 250 pupils. Attached to the rear was a two-roomed building which was occupied by the caretaker. The church was later converted into a residence
