Keas in a large aviary at Mr Murchison’s Lake Coleridge Station.
Caption: Keas in a large aviary at Mr Murchison’s Lake Coleridge Station. There are five keas in the aviary, one of them a recent capture. He was attracted from the hills by the calls of the four, and trapped in a wire enclosure outside the aviary, with a meat tin at the end for a bait. The kea’s leading feature is its curiosity, and his desire to know what was in that tin led this bird to the end of the wire enclosure, and gave time to close the opening which had admitted him.
