Description: St James Church was the first church to be built in the Ellesmere district and it was consecrated on 20 August 1865. It was built on land given by C. J. Bridge when he was subdividing part of 'Homebrook' for a township to be called Southbridge. The church was built by Samuel Early. It was added to in 1875, but was completely destroyed in a fire on 31 January 1934.
