Caption: The luncheon in the marquee. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College, in his address, referred to the high standing the College now had among the farmers of the Dominion, and especially among the farmers in Canterbury; and went on to say that there had been during the year 53 students in residence, although they really had accommodation for only 51, and there would be 53 on the roll for the coming year. The report of the staff stated that the students had done excellent work in the classes and on the farm. This was especially so by first and second-year students, and the staff recommended two extra scholarships, which the Board at a meeting that morning had been pleased to grant. The sources from which the students came was as follows (those for the next year being shown in parentheses): - Southland 5 (3), Otago 3 (3), Canterbury 19 ((20), Malborough 0 (1), Wellington 8 (11), Hawke’s Bay 2 (2), Taranaki 1 (1), Auckland 7 (8), England 4 (1), India 2 (2). The finances of the Board were in a most satisfactory condition, and during the past three years about £3500 had been spent on improvements, all out of revenue.
Description: The annual Farmers’ Day at Canterbury Agricultural College Lincoln was held on December 16th. Due to unfavourable weather the inspection of the farm could not be undertaken. A luncheon was held for the visitors in a large marquee.
