Description: Ellesmere Mounted Rifles in camp at Leeston. The rifle range of the Ellesmere Mounted Rifles was opened on Tuesday 17 January 1899. The "Taiaroa" Range was situated on the western shore of Lake Ellesmere on the property of Hon. H. K. Taiaroa, at that time in the possession of Mr F. Overton.
