Festival highlights
The 2010 festival highlights:
- Crime writing! The presentation of the inaugural Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Crime Novel plus sessions with exciting contemporary writers Simon Kernick, Liam McIlvanney, Neil Cross, Vanda Symon, Michael Robotham and Paul Thomas
- International writers including Simon Winchester, Barbara Trapido, Clive Hamilton and Emily Maguire
- A bevy of Kiwi writers, poets and performers including Dave Dobbyn, Roger Hall, Rachael King, Chris Laidlaw and Helen Lowe.
Events at libraries
The following events were planned at libraries:
- Book launch: Karen Healey will launch Guardian of the dead — 1:00pm Thursday 9 September, Upper Riccarton Library
- Film screening: Frank — a film remembering the father of modern New Zealand writing, Frank Sargeson — 12:00pm Thursday 9 September, Central Library, second floor
- Christchurch kids blog launch — 7:00pm, Wednesday 8 September, Central Library
- Readings by students from the Hagley Writers’ Institute 12:00pm Monday 6, Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 September, Central Library, ground floor.
