Bic Runga
Bic Runga has found national and international success in her musical career. She was born in Christchurch on 13 January 1976 and grew up in the garden city.
Her family environment in Hornby was a musical one her was mother a lounge singer in the Philippines before marrying Joe Runga and moving to New Zealand. Runga learned drums, keyboard and guitar, and her sisters Boh (vocalist for stellar*) and Pearl are also musicians.
At Cashmere High School she entered the Smokefreerockquest with Kelly Horgan and was placed third, earning a recording contract with Pagan records.
She later signed with Sony BMG and released Drive as an album in 1997.
Beautiful Collision followed in 2002 and Birds in 2005.
Runga has also recorded live albums with Tim Finn and Dave Dobbyn Together in Concert: Live (2000), and with the Christchurch Symphony orchestra Live in Concert with the Christchurch Symphony (2003) .
Try to remember everything, a compilation of rare and previoulsy unreleased materials, is also held by Christchurch City Libraries.
