General Conditions of Use for Digital Images

Copyright

Any use of copyright material not expressly permitted by the New Zealand Copyright Act 1994 may infringe copyright.

To the best of our knowledge these images are copyright free unless otherwise stated, but the Library does not take responsibility for copyright decisions or unauthorised reproduction. Legal opinion should always be sought to establish certainty before publishing the image in any way or using it for commercial purposes.

If a work is still in copyright, permission from the copyright holder must be obtained.

Freedom from copyright does not imply freedom to reproduce images from the Library’s web site without permission.

Use and reproduction

Images must be used intact, and not have other images or print superimposed without the permission of the Library. Any cropping of a high resolution TIFF during editing should only be to remove extraneous margins, captions etc and should not affect the integrity of the image as presented on the Library’s web site.

The Library does not grant broad rights such as exclusive or perpetual world rights.

The Library’s permission and fee apply only to the use you have described in the order form. Any further use requires contacting us for permission again and may require a further fee.

Acknowledgement and citation

Acknowledgement of the Library must accompany the reproduction of all images, together with citation details, e.g.

Christchurch City Libraries, File Reference: CCL Map 123456 or
Christchurch City Libraries, File Reference: CCL PhotoCD 2, IMG0003

Further identifying details, such as title, caption, creator or date, can be found with the image on our web site, or by clicking the 'View more information' link, where this is supplied.

The acknowledgement and citation should be reproduced on the same page as the image or at the beginning or end of audiovisual resources.
