Interior of an electric generating plant
Interior of an electric generating plant
[ca. 1920]
This could be the interior of the Addington sub-station which stood at the intersection of Clarence, Foster and Princess Streets. It probably began service about 1915, taking the Government supply from the Lake Coleridge hydro-electric power station to supply the Riccarton Borough. The other possibility is that it is the Armagh Street sub-station which had two 500kw rotary converters installed to enable DC load to be supplied from Lake Coleridge power about the same time.
