The Right Rev. Churchill Julius (1847-1938), Bishop of Christchurch

Churchill Julius emigrated to Australia and then to Canterbury, becoming Anglican Bishop in Christchurch in 1890. He was especially interested in education and was involved in establishing St. Margaret's College in 1910. The Bishop's Hostel (Bishop Julius Hostel) provided accommodation for female students from 1917 and he was a member of the board of governors of Canterbury College in 1891-1904 and 1905-1919
