The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge.
Caption: The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge.
Description: The Waimakariri Gorge Bridge spans the Waimakariri River and until the early 1930s carried the railway line between Oxford and Sheffield. It was erected in 1876 by William Stokes. The piers from the bed of the river are 95 feet and 110 feet high and are of cast iron filled with concrete. Prior to the erection of the bridge a ferry operated.
