Library Leadership Team 150 tukutuku panel
This panel was designed, created and constructed by the Library Leadership Team and the Management Support Team, as part of the Tukutuku project in 2009 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Christchurch City Libraries.

Our story begins with the solid foundations of leadership provided by those leaders who have gone before us, the many talented individuals who lead from their roles within the library and our own passion for the library. This leadership is represented by the poutama (stairway) – masculine and feminine elements. Red has been chosen to stress the abundance of leadership we see within the library.
The twinkling silver stars on either side of our panel form a tribute to those who have gone before us in our profession. The yellow framing is enlightenment.
Within this very traditional framework our story continues. In a twist on the theme of Tane climbing to receive the three baskets of knowledge, we have three windows. Three wisdoms are contained within these:
- Symbols of libraries of the past – library foundations. The fabric backing represents connections.
- The library of today as a destination, with the shells representing our network libraries and the connectedness of our network (both virtual and physical) represented by the blue thread. The 150th badge celebrates our history, but also represents the central library.
- Our sense of the possibilities for the library of the future. Mirrors meaning that the future is what we make of it; reflects us and our vision. Cable represents the place of technology in our future and is another symbol of connectedness.
