Network Library Assistant Team 150 tukutuku panel
This panel was designed, created and constructed by the Network Library Assistants as part of the Tukutuku project in 2009 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Christchurch City Libraries
Nga kaipaowe (Those who wander …)
- Scoubies, elastic, paper, MDF, silk, paper, die cast metal cars
- 122 x 60 cm.
NLAs are an integral part of the Christchurch City Libraries system. The design of our panel reflects the characteristics required and displayed by this team. The features of the panel and what they represent are as follows:-
Jigsaw puzzle pieces - NLAs fill a gap and complete the picture. On the pieces you see parts of the weekly roster and a map of Christchurch. They tell us where to go, when to go and how to get there. We need to be at the right place at the right time.
Elastic – represents flexibility. NLAs need to be able to work effectively in different libraries and teams where work practices can vary. The brightness of the colours represent our vibrant personalities!
The road, grapevine and cars - indicate that travel and the spreading of news play a big role in the life of an NLA. If you heard it on the “grapevine” chances are you heard it from an NLA.
Steps – the panel includes this traditional Māori design depicting knowledge. The steps are woven on both sides of the panel. One represents the men in the team, the other side, the women. Travelling between libraries NLAs share information and knowledge.
