Hagley Park History

Hagley Park had been in existence since as far back as 1855 when The Canterbury Association’s Reserves Ordinance vested Hagley Park and the Government Domain it surrounded in the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury. This decreed that the Park always be reserved as a place for the enjoyment and recreation of the public. The name "Hagley Park" came from the country seat of Lord Lyttelton, Chairman of the Canterbury Association.
