The Fresh Air Home, Cashmere Sanatorium, Christchurch

This was a place where the health of the children of patients in Coronation Hospital could be built up. It opened on 23 Oct. 1923. It was the forerunner of the Health Department's children's homes and open-air schools. It retained its preventorium function until Oct. 1956. The Home kept up its social role as the Huntsbury Children's Home until it closed in 1971
