Sir Joseph Ward (1856-1930) opens Nurse Maude's Hospital at Wainoni.

After formally opening the Avon Pine Sanitorium at Wainoni, Sir Joseph Ward, then Minister of Public Health, "proceeded to Nurse Maude's open-air hospital, which that philanthropic lady has established for the benefit of the poor. The hospital is located near New Brighton, and came into being a few weeks ago." In praising the work accomplished by Nurse Maude, Sir Joseph Ward said that he would endeavour to obtain a £ for £ subsidy for the hospital.
