Designed by Paul Pascoe and built by Sharp Brothers, the store is shown shortly after it opened as a self-service food market in 1957. The opening specials are displayed on the windows. In the 1930s it was common for customers to come in with their shopping lists written on a slate. By 1990 there was one remaining customer who did this
