Robert Heaton Rhodes (1815-1884)

Rhodes arrived in New Zealand in 1850 and managed his family's Banks Peninsula properties. He later moved to Christchurch and became a member of the Canterbury Provincial Council for more than twenty years. He was elected to the House of Representatives from 1871-1874. His eldest son, Sir Heaton Rhodes (1861-1956), was a cabinet minister in the Massey Government from 1912 to 1925
