Caption: The Ellesmere A. and P. Association’s annual ploughing match at Doyleston, Canterbury. In two respects the annual ploughing match of the Ellesmere A. and P. Association was probably unique. It was the first occasion on which a tractor ploughing competition has been held, and there were fifteen tractors at work, in addition to 24 teams. (1) Mr M. G. Wilson (Halkett), first prize three-furrow coulter cut, standard cast shares (maiden), and two special prizes. (2) Mr Ken Wyllie (Sefton), first prize double-furrow coulter cut, standard cast shares (youths under 18), and best finish and feering. (3) Mr G. B. J. Ridden (Southbridge), first prize double-furrow coulter cut (maiden), and two special prizes. (4) Mr A. P. Dugan (Riccarton), first double-furrow coulter cut (open). This team, owned by Mr. J. Moorhead, secured four special prizes.
