This competition aimed at designing a better tram shelter and improving the general layout of the tramway system in Cathedral Square. "An imposing design for beautifying the centre of Cathedral Square which is recommended for adoption by a representative committee of experts and civic administrators. It is proposed to construct a rectangular colonnade enclosing a garden reserve as an island of rest, improving and incorporating the utilities of Cathedral Square. It is suggested that the planted enclosure should be regarded as a garden of memory. " -- The weekly press, However, the matter of the tramway shelter remained unresolved until 1930 when in a court case brought by George Gould of the Save the Square Committee it was found that the land on which the existing shelter stood was reserve land on which the Tramway Board could not construct buildings and so the shelter was removed in 1931 with no replacement
