Making Connections in Linwood

  • 122 x 60 cm

This panel represents the Linwood community as a living entity – one which is constantly adapting, growing and changing, as portrayed by the central tree with its many branches and roots. There is also reference to the legend of Tu-te-Raki-Whanoa (the rake and mounds). Various patterns have been incorporated, including the patikitiki or flounder (abundance), poutama or stairway (knowledge, aspirations and growth) and kaokao or chevron (strength and power). Seven groups of stars in the purapurawhetu (ancestors) pattern celebrate both Matariki and the contribution of early settlers. The net captures the surrounding treasures of diversity and good will in the community. The panel was designed and created by Linwood colleagues and community.
