Lloyd Jones is perhaps the most well known novelist writing in New Zealand today, especially since his success with Mr Pip which was shortlisted for the 2007 Man Booker Prize. Mr Pip also won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Overall Best Book Award and Best Book in the South East Asia and South Pacific region, the 2007 Deutz Medal for Fiction and the Readers’ Choice Awards at the 2007 Montana New Zealand Book Awards.
From his first novel Gilmore’s Dairy through Biographi to Mr Pip he has produced a string of singular works. Perhaps his best known other novel is The book of fame – a wonderful retelling of the pioneering 1905 rugby tour of England. He is also the editor of the great Montana Estates essay series.
