Caption: The Selwyn as seen from the Coalgate bridge, looking east. A good deal of anxiety was felt as to the safety of the bridge, which was swaying a great deal; it, however, survived.
Description: Heavy rain on December 28th and 29th resulted in the flooding of Canterbury rivers. The Selwyn rose to a height not seen for 38 years. This photograph was taken by Mr P. F. Nash from Christchurch who was holidaying at Hororata.
