Caption: The Selwyn from the Coalgate bridge, looking west. This photograph was taken on the Saturday afternoon, when the flood was abating. The trees on the island were covered when the flood was at its height, and the water was nearly up to the decking of the bridge.
Description: Heavy rain on December 28th and 29th resulted in the flooding of Canterbury rivers. The Selwyn rose to a height not seen for 38 years. This photograph was taken by Mr P. F. Nash from Christchurch who was holidaying at Hororata.
