February 22
New "Press" building in operation in Cathedral Square. Designed by J. J. Collins and R.D. Harman, it was the city’s first ferro-concrete building.
March 4
Te Wai Pounamu Māori Girls College established at Ohoka. The college moved to Christchurch in 1921.
June 13
Cafe Continental Hotel at Sumner destroyed by fire.
June 21
City’s high pressure water supply in operation.
