Bindery and Distribution Team 150 tukutuku panel

This panel was designed, created and constructed by the Bindery and Distribution teams, as part of the Tukutuku project in 2009 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Christchurch City Libraries

B.A.D.

  • Book covering cloth, pebbles, felt, flax stalk and driftwood
  • 122 x 60 cm

Library Content is made up of three teams (Selection and Access, Serials and Preservation, Bindery). We have a common thread running across our three Tukutuku panels.

The top of our Tukutuku panels represents the Port Hills as this is a common view to all three teams from our windows and shows how far we reach out in our service delivery (which includes the Port Hills!). The middle of our Tukutuku panels represents the Canterbury Plains with its tussocks. The bottom of our Tukutuku panels represents the sea. We reach out from the sea to the mountains. There is an occasional wave to represent the stormy challenges/changes that we have faced along the way.

Our team has used the waka to represent the Courier Team travelling around the network and the pebbles as the many heavy crates they carry. The chevrons up each side indicate the strength of the work the Bindery Team does to improve the stock and the tree is the tree of knowledge that we repair and maintain. The kete contains the tools used to achieve this. The layers of dark clouds are representative of the 4 reviews the teams have been under over the last 10 years.
