- Ngaio (later Dame Ngaio) Marsh produces "Hamlet" for the University Drama Society, beginning a 20 year association with the society and fostering a classical theatre revival in the City.
- Petition from the Canterbury Housewives Union leads to the carrying of prams on hooks on the front of Transport Board buses.
