[197-?]
The Waimairi Surf Lifesaving Club is shown in the foreground on the left. This Club was originally known as the Waimairi Beach Lifesaving Club, with the name being changed to the Waimairi Surf Lifesaving Club in 1949 when a new building replaced one vandalised during the war years when the club was in recess. This building, which is pictured, was demolished and replaced with another in 1979. Behind the clubhouse are the old brick public toilets, demolished in 2002, and the pump station. On its right are the public changing sheds/toilets which have also been demolished. The road on the left is Beach Road and Larnach Street runs parallel with it on the right. Broad Park has been developed within the stand of macrocarpa and pine trees. See The Press, 13 Nov. 1998, p. 3
