Easter hours

Happy Easter from Christchurch City Libraries to you and your whānau. Libraries are closed on the public holidays Good Friday 14 April and Easter Monday 17 April. Saturday and Sunday aren't public holidays - libraries will be open their normal hours, except Linwood Library at Eastgate which will be closed on Easter Sunday.

School holidays

School holidays are on from Friday 14 April.

Browse our Library and Learning Centre holiday programmes and activities, and explore more local events, workshops, shows, movies, performances, and things to do in Christchurch!

Activities include Maker Space, Minecraft, LEGO mindstorms robotics, disguises, treasure hunts, invisible ink messages, code breaking, and sewing. Some sessions require booking.


Bishopdale 2017: The Christchurch Documentary Project

Photography students from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts are photographing the people and the physical environment of Bishopdale so we can build an archive of contemporary documentary images: The Christchurch Documentary Project.

If you or your group would like to be photographed for this project, please contact the library on 941 7923 or at library@ccc.govt.nz.

The Christchurch Documentary Project has looked at Halswell and the seaside suburbs of the East.

New Central Library

News about your libraries

The construction of your new Central Library is underway. Read the latest info and see the webcam for images of progress on the site. The library is scheduled to open mid-2018.

Construction is also underway on the Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre and the Bishopdale Community Centre and Library. They will be opening this year.

New Brighton's seaside library has reopened after its repairs.

Lyttelton Library and Customer Services is open at 18 Canterbury Street.
