Although Emma's mother would have enrolled her without receiving the Books for Babies pack, she nevertheless discovered more at the library than she expected. Furthermore, the pack prompted her to start sharing books with Emma earlier than she otherwise would have done. An early introduction to books helped Emma become familiar with them and encouraged her to look after them.

James was enrolled straight away as a result of getting the Books for Babies pack. His mother thinks she might otherwise have waited until he was around two. The choice of book worked well propped up in James's cot, while visits to the library revealed the wide variety of resources available. Today the whole family uses the library, valuing the web sites especially chosen for children, while James continues to enjoy reading, particularly puzzle and adventure books. ‘Libraries,' says Julie, ‘are important all round.'
