NZ Book Month photo competition winner

March 2012 is New Zealand Book Month. The theme is Books change lives.

As part of New Zealand Book Month, Christchurch City Libraries held a photography competition for 10-year-olds and over: send in a photo of a child reading their favourite book in their favourite place.

The winning entry (shown at right) was by Danielle Rutter. You can see all the finalists on Flickr.

The winning entry received an exciting prize pack is being used in promoting the Library’s Winter Reading 2012 campaign. Runners-up also received prizes.

The competition opened Friday 10 February 5pm, and closed Friday 16 March 5pm.

Photo guidelines

  • Images can be portrait or landscape. Ideally they should have an uncluttered background.
  • Images need to have a resolution of 300 dpi minimum. We suggest you set your camera to the highest file size possible (the setting on your camera will probably be called “fine” or “large”).
  • Maximum file size of 10MB.

Submitting your photograph

By submitting a photo, you agree to accept our conditions. Please email your digital image to us (maximum file size 10MB), making sure that you include the following details in your email:

  • Your name
  • Contact phone number(s)
  • First names of people who appear in the photograph (if more than one, please locate them e.g. from L to R
  • Briefly describe the scene including book title and approximate location of favourite spot e.g. Sumner beach).

Conditions

Christchurch City Libraries reserves the right to refuse any image, or choose not to publish it.

  1. Multiple entries are permitted.
  2. Copies of the photograph entries may be displayed in the library and on the Christchurch City Libraries website.
  3. Entries that do not have full contact details will not be considered.
  4. All winners will be notified by telephone and/or email.
  5. By entering, all winners consent to their names and images being used for reasonable publicity purposes by Christchurch City Libraries, including promotion of the Winter Reading Club 2012.
  6. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. Christchurch City Libraries will not be responsible for any breaches of copyright or privacy that may occur.
  8. Christchurch City Libraries reserve the right not to display all entries.
  9. Employees of Christchurch City Council and their immediate families will not be eligible to enter the competition.
  10. Christchurch City Libraries may crop or edit your photo as required.

By submitting a photograph you also agree that:

  • The subject(s) of your photo has/have consented to this use of the image. In submitting a photo, you are responsible for ensuring this consent has been given. Other than to remove images on request, Christchurch City Libraries will take no responsibility for use of photos which are later found to have been submitted without consent or without meeting these conditions;
  • You are the parent or legal guardian of any children in the photograph OR you have obtained consent from the parent or legal guardian of any children in the photograph. We cannot accept photographs of children without the explicit consent of their parents/legal guardian.
